The World
Reach's universe is set in modern (2017) times to allow for a smoother transition into the game. General information that we'll be following can be found here for those who need it, and unfortunately, current world leaders haven't been changed. All humans are just that - human. No superpowers or superheros. Aliens have never made contact, and almost everyone watched the eclipse. The Cannes Film Festival went off without a hitch, and Angela Merkel was reelected as Chancellor of Germany.
Everything was normal, though never quite peaceful. Until the haze rose up and enveloped the world.
The Reach

The Reach, dubbed so by natives in the area, is an island located 'somewhere' in the Indian Ocean. It is roughly 5.8km in length, and the highest known point is 220m. Prior to the coalition's presence, there had been no one living here, though neighboring islands have high volumes of tourists visit during the summer months. The temperature is 90 degrees Fahrenheit with 80% humidity and very little rain. After the haze descended over the island, anywhere that the oil spill-like mist touches has been subject to change. The coalition is unlikely to make each instance public knowledge unless it becomes a priority.
At the northern side of the map (the circle), the coalition camp was built. The small square below it is the tower, where characters will live for a majority of the time, and three diamond shapes mark the location where the coalition has been attempting to reach to create a base of study. The line across the middle is where the beginning of the haze begins - it circles and covers the rest of the southern part of the island. Areas within the southern reach are unexplored and will come up during game play.
Housing

The coalition camp is setup to house the scientists and coalition personnel, resembling a military barracks. It is made for function, not comfort. Characters may pass through camp or stay if they are ill, but for the majority of the game, characters will live in the tower.
A group of ten made it a two days walk south from the coalition camp before they had to stop, and there, they built the tower. The tower defies the typical rules of gravity and is crafted mostly from wood. It's eleven stories high and counting, sways when the wind blows, but when inside, is as stable as any normal building. The first floor is the kitchen and common room with stairs in the back that lead up to each floor above. The second floor is home to the guides, who are available to answer questions and to request and retrieve supplies when a character requires it.
Each floor above is outfitted with one bathroom (shower, toilet, and sink), four corner rooms, and two long rooms on either side of a narrow hallway. The floor assignments will be filled during the application period and information will be noted in app acceptances; characters may choose their room and bed on their assigned floor.
